Ichabod Crane Varsity Boys Soccer 2016 Recap by Camdyn Ames
The Ichabod Crane Boys Varsity Soccer team closed out its season yesterday afternoon with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Hastings in the Class B New York State Semifinals. The Riders finished the season with a 18-3-1 record winning the Class B Section 2 title, and the Class B Regional title. They were led by senior captains George Cox and Peter Volkmann. Cox provided a spark up front for the Riders scoring 27 goals this season and assisting on 15. Volkmann was a brick wall this year shutting out teams 13 times. He recorded 115 saves this year for a 92 save percentage. The defense was impenetrable this season led by Sophomore Jack Kirby, Senior Scott Delfiglio, Junior Matt Ragosta, Junior Nick Gallo, and Senior Bryant Halpin. The Riders will graduate 8 players this year including Volkmann, Cox, Delfiglio, Zak Swere, Jared Dijan, Halpin, Gerard Lopez Gomez, and Garret Kilcer.
