USA Wins the Ryder Cup 17-11 by Jake Martino
The greatest weekend every two years is not the Olympics, but none other than the Ryder Cup. The world’s best golfers from Team Europe and Team USA come together in one place and battle it out in match play format. This year’s Ryder Cup was chosen to be played in the United States. This tournament was full of emotion and it was the single best thing to watch this weekend and maybe the entire year. When it came to the fans from the United States they went crazy, and that may be something that some of these golfers have never experienced before. The noise was very lob sided, going towards the United States. Team Europe had some retaliation to the noise, including Rory Mcilroy who made some noise for himself and his team when things were going their way. The United States on Sunday defeated Team Europe 17-11. The US dominated the final-day singles to win the Ryder Cup for the first time since 2008. Tour Championship runner-up Ryan Moore beat Lee Westwood on the 18th green to clinch the Cup for the US. The first match of the day was the most fun to watch between Rory Mcilroy and Patrick Reed. The biggest highlight came when Rory drilled a 60-foot birdie putt into the back of the cup on the 8th. The next putt Reed followed him with a 25 foot birdie putt, after the two shared a pat on the back and a fist bump. The 2nd closest matchup of the day had to have been between Jordan Speith and Henrik Stenson. Two phenomenal golfers battled it out to the end and Henrik came up with a 1up final. This Ryder Cup is the last major event for 2016, and it won’t come back until 2018 when it will be hosted by Team Europe. Hopefully I will be competing when it comes back to the America’s in 2020 ;) .
