Rory Mcilroy Wins the Tour Championship Tour Championship To Claim the FedEx Cup by Jake Martino
Atlanta- Going into Sunday at the Tour Championship, Dustin Johnson set atop the Tour Championship leaderboard and the FedEx Cup Leaderboard. That would change. Dustin had a day to not remember. He shot a final round score of 73. Dustin needed Rory to not win the Tour Championship in order for him to win the FedEx Cup. The man that needed to prove to the world that he is still a top golfer, Rory Mcilroy, did just that. He caught fire going into Sundays round shooting a -6 score of 64 just tearing up the golf course. It all came down to the final holes and Rory on the 16th hole, holed out from 138 yards for eagle, to put him 1 shot back of the lead going into the 17th hole. A birdie at 18, after a chip from a bunker to within two feet, sealed his place in the play-off. "All I wanted to do was concentrate on winning the Tour Championship," said 27-year-old McIlroy, who also won the Deutsche Bank Championship three weeks ago. Both McIlroy and Moore birdied the first play-off hole at 18, but the Ulsterman was unlucky to see his eagle putt hit the lip following a brilliant second shot to within six feet. With Chappell eliminated, McIlroy and Moore each took par after a second trip down the 18th, and on the third play-off hole at 15, before McIlroy birdied the 16th to win the 10th edition of the FedEx Cup. Well not just the FedEx cup but also about 11.5 MILLION DOLLARS. That’s all.
