The Saugerties Stallions finished play on Saturday night with a heartbreaking loss to division foe the Albany Dutchmen. The Stallions ended the year with a 14-34 record (0.292 Winning pct.) which was 6th in the East division and 11th overall. The team finished with a .220 batting average and a 4.45 ERA. I put together my Saugerties Stallions team awards for the 2016 season:

MVP: Alex Thrower (University of Buffalo)

Thrower was tied for a league leading 28 stolen bases and he got on base every game this year that leading to a .535 on base percentage.

Cy Young: Nick Burns (John Hopkins University)

In 45 innings Nick struck out 18 batters allowing only 12 earned runs on 45 hits and finished with a 2.40 ERA.

Batting Title: Michael Pfenniger (Manhattan College)

Pfenniger finished with a .227 batting average and lead the team in home runs (2), triples (6), and RBI's (24).

Since the 2016 regular season has come to an end in the PGCBL I put together my predictions on who should receive what award. I divided the awards by division so there will be one award for each division.

East Awards:

MVP: Chris Givin (Amsterdam Mohawks) (Xavier University)

Givin lead the league this year in batting average (.383) he also had  51 hits,  6 doubles,  2 home runs, and  14 RBI's.

Rookie of the Year: Quin Cotton

(Oneonta Outlaws) (Grand Canyon University)

Although Cotton did break his wrist in the end of the year he had a heck of a season posting a team leading .314 batting average while driving in 32 runs and hitting 8 doubles. He will be attending Grand Canyon University this fall.

Cy Young: Cameron Enck (Amsterdam Mohawks) (University of Maryland)

Cameron posted a 0.39 ERA this year (A new PGCBL record) while striking out 24 and allowing just 9 runs on 40 hits in 46 innings pitched this summer.

Batting Title: Joe Genord (Amsterdam Mohawks) (University of South Florida)

Joe lead the league in home runs (7) and RBI's (45) this year. He also broke the single season PGCBL record for RBI's in a season.

West Awards:

MVP: Dale Wickham (Victor RailRiders) (Cornell University)

Dale lead the west division in batting average posting a .376 average while collecting 53 hits in 141 at-bats.

Rookie of the Year: Danny Madden (Elmira Pioneers) (St. Bonaventure)

Madden only allowed 2 earned runs on just 10 hits in 13 innings pitched this year striking out 14. He will be attending St. Bonaventure this fall.

Cy Young: Brennan Smith (Victor RailRiders) (Canisius College)

Brennan lead the league in strikeouts (52) and lead the West division in ERA (1.06) this year.

Batting Title: Ben Brookover (Jamestown Jammers) (University of Texas at San Antonio)

Ben lead the West in RBI's (40) and was tied for second in home runs (3).

The Saugerties Stallions lost to the Albany Dutchmen Saturday night in Albany 8-7. Nick Burns (John Hopkins) started on the bump for the Stallions going 5 innings allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits while sitting down 2. Richie Barrella (Manhattan College) went 3 for 5 with 3 singles while scoring a run. Adam Chase (Franklin Pierce) went 2 for 4 scoring 2 runs and Tyler Noe (UMass Lowell) went 2 for 4 with a single, double, RBI and also scored a run. The game was tied at 5 until the top of the eighth when Noe scored on a double steal. The Stallions added another run in the top of the ninth when Julius Saporito (Quinnipiac University) payed down a suicide squeeze bunt to score Barrella. Saugerties turned to Mike Davis (Quinnipiac University) to shut the door but the Dutchmen fired back scoring two runs on a single from Jack Gethings (Fairfield University) to tie the game. Then with the bases loaded Jon Skidmore (Dallas Baptist University) hit a single down the right field line to score JJ Shimko (University of South Carolina Upstate) from third. The win went to Jack Grabek (Bucknell University) and the loss was charged to Davis. The Stallions final game is at home tomorrow Sunday, July 31st at Cantine Memorial Field in Saugerties!

The Saugerties Stallions lost to the Glen's Falls Dragons 15-5 Friday night. Andrew Workman (Quinnipiac University) only lasted 2.2 innings allowing 6 runs on 7 hits. Tyler Noe (UMass Lowell) replaced him going 1.1 innings allowing 0 hits and 0 runs while striking out 2.

Micah Riddick (St. Bonaventure) made his return to the playing field after an injury, but this time on the mound going 1.2 innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits. Mike Davis (Quinnipiac) threw only 0.1 inning getting a ground out. Roberto Malinowski (Texas A&M Chorpus Christi) tossed two innings allowing 4 runs. Adam Chase (Franklin Pierce) threw the last inning allowing just 1 hit. The offense was quite but Michael Pfenniger (Manhattan College) went 3 for 5 with and RBI. Jacob Yish (Boston College) collected a double and 2 RBI's. The Stallions last home game is Sunday, July 31st at 7:05 pm against the Oneonta Outlaws. Fireworks will follow Sunday's game.

The Saugerties Stallions dropped two games to the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs Tuesday night. In the first game Anthony Rocco (Pace University) started on the mound going 6.1 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking 7 and striking out 4. Alex Thrower (University of Buffalo) went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. 

Ben Contento started on the bump in the second game going 6 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits while walking just 3 and striking out 6. Julius Sapporito (Quinnipiac University), Richie Barrella (Manhattan University), and Alex Thrower (University of Buffalo) were the only Stallions to get a hit. Sapporito went 1 for 3, Barrella went 1 for 3, and Thrower was 1 for 1. 

The Stallions next home game is Thursday, July 28th against the Albany Dutchmen at 6:30.

The Stallions picked up a win over the Oneonta Outlaws Sunday afternoon 6-4 on Kellan Ryan Day. Nick Burns (John Hopkins) went the distance throwing 9 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2. The offensive attack was lead by Michael Pfenniger (Manhattan) and Vince Lakes Jr. (Franklin Pierce). Pfenniger went 2 for 3 with a single and an RBI triple. Lakes went 2 for 3 with two singles and also scored a run. The Stallions next home game is Tuesday, July 26th a double header against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at 5:00pm.

The Saugerties Stallions fell to the Oneonta Outlaws Friday night 15-8. Andrew Workman started on the mound for the Stallions throwing 3 innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits. Caleb Gregg came in relief for the Stallions throwing 4 innings allowing only 1 run on just 2 hits. Vinnie Valentino came in for Gregg after he was struck by a line drive. Valentino allowed 6 runs in just 2 innings on 7 hits. The offense was lead by Adam Chase going 2 for 3 with two singles and scoring 2 runs. The Stallions next home game is Sunday, July 24th against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at 6:35 which is Kellan Ryan day. Kellan was in an accident and all proceeds will be donated back to Kellan. 

The Saugerties Stallions collected a huge win over first place Amsterdam Mohawks on Tuesday night 4 to 1. Ben Contento started for the Stallions and went the distance throwing 9 innings allowing just 1 earned run on 2 hits while striking out 10. Brian Dempsey and Alex Thrower led the offense, Dempsey going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Thrower collected 1 hit in 3 at bats while scoring 3 out of the 4 Stallion runs. Thrower has also reached base safely in every game this year. The Stallions picked up a good win going into the All star break where Alex Thrower and Nick Burns will be participating in the All Star Game being held tomorrow night at 7:00 at Bellizzi field which is home of the Albany Dutchmen. Vince Lakes Jr. will be the Stallions participant in the Home Run Derby at 5:30. The Stallions next home game is July 22nd against the Oneonta Outlaws at 6:35pm.
