2016 Saugerties Stallions Round Up

The Saugerties Stallions finished play on Saturday night with a heartbreaking loss to division foe the Albany Dutchmen. The Stallions ended the year with a 14-34 record (0.292 Winning pct.) which was 6th in the East division and 11th overall. The team finished with a .220 batting average and a 4.45 ERA. I put together my Saugerties Stallions team awards for the 2016 season:
MVP: Alex Thrower (University of Buffalo)
Thrower was tied for a league leading 28 stolen bases and he got on base every game this year that leading to a .535 on base percentage.
Cy Young: Nick Burns (John Hopkins University)
In 45 innings Nick struck out 18 batters allowing only 12 earned runs on 45 hits and finished with a 2.40 ERA.
Batting Title: Michael Pfenniger (Manhattan College)
Pfenniger finished with a .227 batting average and lead the team in home runs (2), triples (6), and RBI's (24).

Stallions Suffer Tough Loss

The Saugerties Stallions fell to the Amsterdam Mohawks Saturday night 14-10. Anthony Rocco (Pace University) started on the mound for the Stallions only going 2.2 innings allowing 8 hits 6 runs (4 earned) walking 4 and striking out 4. Michael Pfenniger (Manhattan College) led the Stallions offense going 3 for 5 scoring 2 runs and driving 1 run in. The Stallions were down 8-3 going into the 5th inning but a big 6 run 5th stole them the lead. After a two-run home run by Amsterdam's Tristen Caranza (New Mexico State University) the Stallions went down 11-10 and stayed down surrendering 3 more runs. The win went to Tim Naughton (NC State) and the loss was charged to Andrew Workman (Quinnipiac University). The Stallions next home game is Tuesday 7/19. ARTICLE BY CAMDYN AMES
